Sr Site Development and Energization Manager, Data Centers Americas

IMDC is looking for a results-oriented individual to lead the development and execution of energy solutions to power IMDC’s growing DC footprint across the Americas (Canada, US, Central/South America) . This role is critical to driving the development, qualification, and contracting of both traditional utility interconnections and innovative energy solutions such as onsite generation. This role is central to identifying and implementing energy solutions today and leading the development of future innovative energy solutions. As a member of the Site Development team, you will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, peers, and customers to energize IMDC Data Centers. A central component of this role will be continuously driving process and energy solution innovations that accelerate IMDC Data Center time to energize, decrease the total cost of energy while supporting IMDC’s Renewable Energy and Sustainability commitments.

Function Specific Work Activities:

  • Support the Director, Data Center Site Development and Energization and the Director, Energy and Sustainability in the development and execution of a comprehensive energy and utilities strategy for Iron Mountain Data Centers (IMDC) that supports IMDC data center growth and Sustainability and Renewable Energy goals.

  • Negotiate Interconnection Agreements and Project Manage implementation of large scale power infrastructure. Ensure permits are secured and appropriate to enable DC development.

  • Use data and research to identify and evaluate regions and sites against specific requirements as indicated by the team lead. Make recommendations on the selection of the sites evaluated based on data, requirements, industry experience, and judgment.

  • Collaborate with the Director, Data Center Site Development as appropriate to keep them updated on progress, key findings, and escalations.

  • Ensure accurate completion of required documents, tracking tools, and adhere to project timelines.

  • Team with internal customers and peers to develop energy solutions to ensure continued Datacenter growth and accelerate IMDC site time to market.

Key Skills, Requirements and Competencies:

  • Master’s Degree (MBA/MS)

  • 10+ years of experience in evaluating Land Acquisition and site energy development opportunities including risks to power infrastructure development and power delivery (e.g. easements, rights of way, schedule, equipment acquisition, etc.).

  • 5+ yrs of demonstrated success negotiating utility energy services agreements, leading development and execution of large scale utility interconnection projects, and leading power projects for mission critical applications.

  • Experience securing rights of way, easements, and permits for high and medium voltage power lines and substations.

  • Proven ability to evaluate new energy markets, utility tariffs, policies, power contracts, or evaluating new energy sourcing opportunities and technologies, including large scale clean onsite generation.

  • Experience building relationships and working with industry stakeholders, such as utilities, energy developers, regional power planning agencies, renewable project developers, project investors, and alternative energy providers.

  • The ability to manage and prioritize multiple simultaneous projects with minimal direction

  • Excellent speaking-listening-writing skills and attention to details

  • Be a passionate self-starter

  • Proven track record for cultivating strong relationships with internal stakeholders, vendors, or customers

  • Excellent communicator & experience working x-functionally.

  • Technical degree preferred: engineering, legal, or RE or equivalent work experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to interface effectively with clients, peers across Iron Mountain and Iron Mountain senior management.

  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality required.

  • Ability to manage against tight timelines and competing priorities.

  • Strong judgment and ability to make evidence based decisions.

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

  • Apply technical knowledge in the development of feasibility analyses for project specifications—ensuring all stakeholder expectations are met.

  • Design and manage both small-scale and large-scale projects with an eye on safety, scheduling, and budget.

  • Track project progress—compiling technical reporting, specifications, and calculations for internal and external parties.

  • Develop and maintain current project databases, creating secondary systems when necessary.

  • Demonstrably strong negotiation skills.

  • Ability to work productively in an environment requiring multi-tasking and working against deadlines.

  • Willingness to travel 30% of the time.
